A. the only thing i would worry about is that it might not be the real thing.. i mean it might not be the same substance.. and if it's produced in some third world country from horse pee (that's what i've heard) it might actually work against you for pregnancy. ask your dr. to prescribe femara to you.. if you take it early in your cycle before ovulation there is no way it can cause birth defects and it's very cheap, like less then $20. my dr. said she sees more pregnancies and less side effects with femara.

Can sombody clarify the difference between 21 and 28 day cycles?
Q. I spoke with the gyny nurse and she explained it like this. For a 21 Day cycle, we mensturate for up to 7days then not for two weeks, then start again. For a 28 day cycle, we mensturate for up to 7 days, then not for 3 weeks. Is this right? I always thought that a 28 day cycle meant that a woman had 28 days between periods.
Asked by profile image - Thu Jul 13 00:05:39 2006 - Women's Health - 4 Answers - Comments
A. Both are true 28 days is about 3-4 weeks and 21 days is about 2-3 weeks. Some women have irregular periods some dont. Depending on your body. Just make a symbol (like a dot or a circled p or something of your choice) just for you on your calender every day of your period. then count 28 days till your next one (28 days isnt exact its more of an estimate)

do you think people mistake feminist-gyny/skepticism about feminism with misogyny?
Q.
Asked by mr. ji.ngleberr.ies - Tue Nov 9 11:02:54 2010 - Gender & Women's Studies - 5 Answers - Comments
A. I think it has less to do with mistaking the two and more to do with it being a convenient way of making people back away from questioning feminism. Anytime you question feminism, they call you a misogynist to get you to stop pointing out what's wrong with feminism.

Spotting in 2nd week of birth control pills?

A. did you miss any of your pills? if so, this could be why. also, how has your diet been? if you haven't been eating well, you may be anemic. lastly, you could be pregnant and the spotting was from "implantation"? either way, i would go see the doctor and see what's going on -- just in case. good luck.

Having Mirena Coil removed - how long till I feel normal again?
Q. I am 41 and had a mirena coil fitted last November as I was suffering from heavy periods. Although my periods are no longer heavy or painful they are lasting forever. I generally bleed for about 28-30 days and then have a week or so of no bleeding before I start all over again. I have also gained weight around my abdomen, feel very bloated and uncomfortable and have been getting spots (which I never had before). My gyny told me that it can take several months to sort itself out but it was a year last month and things arent getting any better. I am sick of feeling fat and bleeding all the time so I have an appointment on Monday to have it removed. Does anyone know how long it takes for the hormones to leave your system and therefore when I… [cont.]

A. I don't think that it's related to the IUD anymore. If your doctor isn't working with you, find a new doctor. At 41, it's possible that you're beginning peri-menopause. (Don't kill me!) That will get your hormones in a riot. There are home test kits to see if that's the case. But don't put up with this...it's been too long!

A. Your clinician can provide you with the information you need to make the best choice for you. It is very important to be frank and honest about your sex life. Up to one out of two women will have a sexually transmitted infection in her lifetime. These infections can cause sterility, cancer, as well as problems with pregnancy, childbirth, and infant health. Some can cause death. Great harm can be done even when there are no symptoms. Very often, women have no symptoms. That s why it s important to let your clinician know whether or not you are at risk for sexually transmitted infections. A. www.ratemds.com is where I go to for information on different doctors, etc. However, you have to keep in mind that just because someone likes one doctor doesn't mean YOU will. The first OB I ever had I HATED, other woman LOVED her. The second OB I had (and the one I use for non-pregnancy related things [I used midwives for pregnancy]) I LOVE and others hate.

Why do cyst form in private area?
Q. Ok I have already asked other questions and got to know about cyst. But my questionis is why do it form in private area such as our a**. For me it happened 3x...should i go to doctor(gyny?)/what? My mom says it is a sign that I'll get dibetic in future...Obviously that isn't true but why does it form? Give appropriate reason!

A. Where exactly was the cyst? Was it at the top of your butt crack? In that case, it's kind of common. It's called a pilonidal cyst and people who have it tend to get surgery to fix it.

Exercise with prolapse womb?
Q. I have been diagnosed with prolapse womb and am waiting for consultation with gyny. I'm 40 and have one daughter who is now 14. I cant understand why this has happened and my gp cant give me a reason. I regularly attended spin & pilates classes but am unsure if these exercises will worsen my condition. Can anyone shed any light on this for me because the last thing i want is to feel anymore uncomfortable than i already am. Any advice would be really appreciated...thanks

A. Hi, I had a mild prolapse and bulging from the rectum. ( rectocele) After years of doing pelvic floor exercises nothing helped so I had surgery last June. Everything went well- the operation was fine. I know feel more 'secure' down there and no heavy feeling. I am a personal trainer- so over the years have ran marathons and trained in the gym/ done pilates and other fitness classes. This has not affected my prolapse atal- it was the birth of 2 big babies that did the damage! Exercise would help strengthen and support the pelvic floor- not make it worse. Without your exercise classes you may have had a much worse degree of prolapse. Remember to always pull in your abdominals and try and squeeze up your pelvic floor muscles during pilates/cla [cont.]

A. I can't answer on the mirena coil but from having learned about it from the company as far as things it shouldn't be used for one of the things I learned from the company info is that it is not meant to be used in women who have endometriosis. As for hysteroscopy yes, I have had one of these done. I had it done in 1999 to check to make sure I didn't have other polyps going on inside of me after my dr found one at the top of my cervix. The polyp was benign but when they occur they can cause irregular bleeding. The procedure should take about half an hour from start to finish depending on the reason for why he's doing (meaning if he's looking for something in particular). You will be in recovery for about an hour. There may be some bleeding… [cont.]

what is cauding my severe lower abdominal pain?
Q. this has happened several times now, where after a sudden urge to use the loo has triggered a sudden lower abdominal pain which is so severe i have been rolling around on the floor, sweating, thirsty, and hyperventilating. this lasts for about 3/4 hr and then eases, but i am left with a very tender abdomon which lasts for hours and feels that it could start again at any moment. the pain is central and feels like a gyny type pain. Any ideas?

A. Hey, I'm NOT a Dr. but how about checking out a Urologist or a Gastroenterologist? Both are good Doctors in their own fields of expertise so look up in the phonebook for each one of these Doctors, tell them your problems and see what they say or there is always the Emergency Room in the closest hospital. Good Luck.

A. Delay/Difference in Menstruation: A delayed or missed menstruation is the most common pregnancy symptom leading a woman to test for pregnancy. When you become pregnant, your next period should be missed. Many women can bleed while they are pregnant, but typically the bleeding will be shorter or lighter than a normal period. This symptom is commonly explained by other reasons. If you have been sexually active and have missed a period, it is recommended that you take a test. Other Explanations: Excessive weight gain/loss, fatigue, hormonal problems, tension, stress, ceasing to take the birth control pill, or breast-feeding. A blood test will show for sure if you are pregnant 7 days following conception and a pregnancy test can be taken up to… [cont.]

Has anyone else experienced small gestational sac?
Q. Last week when I was scanned (5 wks) sac was 10mm. This week sac only 11mm but fetal pole and heartbeat visible. My gyny is recommending D&C as the sac growth is abnormal. Has this happened to anyone else?
Asked by Rachel D - Tue Dec 4 05:48:18 2007 - Trying to Conceive - 2 Answers - Comments
A. Yes I had this problem, I am 10 weeks pregnant with twins. I had bleeding so had a scan at 6 weeks the 2nd sac was very small and low and was told I would prob lose that one even though there was a heartbeat and pole visable. I went in for a 2nd scan at 7 weeks 3 days and was told the same thing but at 7 weeks 3 days 1 sack was only measuring 11mm compared to yoru 10mm at 5 weeks! So I prepared myself as thought I would lose one baby. Had a 3rd scan done on Fri last week due to car accident and both babies are fine and growing normal and are measuring 23mm each! if your baby still has a heartbeat I would ask them to wait as it may correct itself like mine did. Q. Last week when I was scanned (5 wks) sac was 10mm. This week sac only 11mm but fetal pole and heartbeat visible. My gyny is recommending D&C as the sac growth is abnormal. Has this happened to anyone else?

Good Luck xx

Pornography v Male Gyny's?
Q. What is the difference between a male gynaecologist doing his chosen job and a porn film. Except the medical side of it of course..Except the medical side of it of course<<< Many elements are the same imo, there are 3/4 people in the room with closed door, a spotlight on the vagina, Male doctor pushing fingers and instrumens into a vagina, even the smell element is present. The only missing item is hidden under a white coat. Some say male doctor are trained not to get turned on during these exams, so why do they watch pornography. Serious answers please. Meg if that was the case...why do doctors watch pornography, they are trained not to get turned on, we are lead to believe. Alex B, perhaps you should consider this POLL… [cont.]

A. Anybody who thinks male doctors don't get turned on when they examine a pretty, healthy young woman are naive. I have a male brain myself, and I know EXACTLY how men think, and I know EXACTLY how men look at attractive women. To be honest I feel more angry with the women who go to male doctors in the first place if there are female doctors available. Some doctors on the internet have even admitted to getting aroused. I've heard a lot of creepy stuff from people who work in the medical industry. People are just naive and ignorant. Let them get on with it.

Is it rude to have sex before seeing a gynacologist ? Does unprotected sex make any difference ?
Q. Will the gyny be able to see all that "stuff" if you did it the night before ? How about an hour before ?

A. You shouldn't have sex within 48 hours before going to the gynecologist. It can actually interfere with test results for your pap smear.

for those who chart bbt?
Q. I am doing my first full month of BBT charting for my gyny so he can tell if I ovulate. The question I have is is the temperature shift gradual as you approach ovulation? How can he tell if I have ovulated? my temps so far have all been in the 36 range eg 36.0 - 36.8 but I am only on cycle day 12..what should I expect to happen with the temps? Thanks so much

A. It's typically not gradual. To tell if you ovulated, your temperature has to be higher (anywhere from .2 degrees and up) than any of the 3 previous days' temps. I sometimes have a temp dip the day of or day before ovulation. It's hard to tell anything from your first month temping. Try using ovulation tests as well as charting your bbt. It will help pinpoint ovulation. After your temp goes up (highest in 3 days), it should stay up atleast 10 days which is your luteal phase. If it dips down a day or so in that period, that's fine but overall it should stay above your coverline. If it goes below your coverline and stays down, then you may have a luteal phase defect. I found out I had one and started B6 in November and it increased my luteal… [cont.]
